Unfortunately the economy and required repairs to get Betsy to run forced me to send her to be crushed at the junk yard. I'm heartbroken. The cost of the diesel fuel pump was $1500 before labor and I just couldn't figure how to monetize her. A $6,000 investment netted me $250 in the end. Not that she didn't make it back in a big way for me. For the past 2 to 3 years she had been relegated to carrying materials for a construction company and hauling waste to the landfill. Maybe she would have made a beautiful Ice Cream Truck:)

Faeries VS Pirates

I think at this point most people have a general understanding of what a pirate is. You have the dirty pirates with their teeth falling out of there heads and you have your sexy pirates. But what exactly is a faerie and what are the different kinds?
This faerie has a bit more of a goth feel. She probably glamorizes magic and feels oneness with her cosmetics and a mirror. But that doesn't mean she's less powerful than a pirate. Pirates are generally warm blooded and they like to drink a whole bunch. They do seem to be mostly human most of the time. That doesn't mean they exercise humanity although they mostly will live by the pirate code of honor. What is that code you may ask? Well if I told you then...

Here obviously stands an enlightened faerie couple. He has blonde hair and bow and arrow and his wife holds the sceptre. Is this one of the reasons that we see mostly female faeries about is that the women in faerie society have control of the phallic objects? The male faerie may be required to stay home and handle 'female' chores. These faeries were probably just posing for the Foyim, the non faerie society, as these paintings have been known to bring in beau-coups faerie bucks by selling them to the above mentioned tourists.
Here we see a faerie that wants to cover his budding male sexuality. Not all that uncommon for incredibly good looking male faeries to want to do this until they have control over their magic wands or they just give up trying to control them. This may take a long time as some faeries have been known to live over 400 years.
This faerie or one of her affiliates will help you enter into an altered state of consciousness with some type of faerie dust.

Should you have leftovers of any kind please donate them to this male "Beer Faerie". The phrase commonly iterated by others around this faerie is, "What happened to my beer?" Be forewarned to keep an eye on your libations in it's presence at all times.

Cooper vs Smith Reunion

My annual Smith family reunion generally entails swapping a lot of stories that have happened over the past year, eating a big Sunday meal with a lot of starchy foods and swimming in the river.

We've gotten a little more sophisticated through the years, with keeping the flies off the food and ourselves out of the sun; Alan Miller picked up some patio tents at Walmart.

This year was a little more unusual. Reg Cooper pulled in about 12:30 and said the Cooper reunion was about to start playing music. The Cooper reunion is held the 2nd Sunday of every August on the other side of the mountain. So it's a little unusual for someone like me of the Smith descent to go a visting over there but I was so interested in getting some video footage of the music I figured I'd a risk getting shot or something.

When I got to the Cooper reunion I couldn't believe my eyes. Theirs was being held underneath a pavilion and the people were dressed up in their Sunday finest. Not only that but they had electricity and were speaking through amplifiers. Some people had stitched 'Cooper Reunion' onto pillows and towels and things. The music was wonderful and I got some good video too.

When I finally got back to the Smith reunion Reg was there and he asked what I thought of the Cooper Reunion. I looked around at my family, they are all sitting around, some shirtless, bellies hanging out, food on the table with flies buzzing around. The fence is broken down and the house lists to one side. I said, "Come on people, let's pull it together. Over there at the Cooper reunion they're giving out door prizes, they've got printed programs and everything!"

My family didn't bat an eye and just kept on talking. I think that's when we all went back for 3rds.

Seeing flowers growing amidst the glaciers in southern Wyoming really filled my heart with wonderment. We're walking up the path towards the top of the Snowy Range in The Medicine Bow Mountains.
This must be a 500' drop. I scooted over to the edge and stuck my feet out for perspective.

When we were coming back down the trail, a hiker with skis on the sides of his backback was planning on skiing down the center glacier for some summer recreation.

The Indians called the Whites, Wasichus, meaning greedy, as they watched their conestoga wagons and their occupants lusting for gold and treasure trapse across their lands. I guess we're still doing it, not taking the time to check out the local scene or know the country we're traveling through.

Here is Hells Half Acre, a state run park located about 30 minutes west of Casper. It would seem to me someone would take an interest in the place.

The Virginian and Cody

Legend has it that my great grandfather, an Alan, had assassinated someone of political import in Wyoming and had fled to the hills of West Virginia. So I kept wondering about the karma that might befall me heading to such a severe part of the universe, in particular, a seemingly lawless part of the United States of America called Cody, Wyoming. What really turned me onto this were the smashed guard rails leading down from Yellowstone where the vehicles that had turned them into metal spaghetti must have fallen 500' to the valley below. There were at least 3 turns where someone or something had met there maker.

So we arrive in Cody where they have a nightly shoot out from 6 to 7 pm. Unfortunately, I didn't think to bring the camera to the nightly rodeo where the under the age of 12 bull riders would limp off the field and the MC and clowns would make fun of them in their own unusual forms of self deprecating humor. Something along the lines of that the recently injured don't know where they are, they think they're in Dallas.

As the guns blare and the smoke builds the onlookers stare unaffectedly. Strangely enough, with all of the guns and ammo in town, I couldn't find one outfit that dressed and/or dried wild game, like moose, elk or antelope. All of the jerky had beef in it yet everyone in the place was a hunter.

Heading south from Cody we passed through Medicine Bow which was made famous by the movie the Virginian.

The film is most memorable for a card-playing poker scene. Insulted by the words, "When I want to know anything from you, I'll tell you, you long-legged son of a ---," the Virginian (Gary Cooper) responds by laying his gun out on the table and threatening the gambler:

Trampas: ...you long-legged sonova -
Virginian: If you wanna call me that, smile.
Trampas: With a gun against my belly, I-I always smile.

Here is the Hotel, in the middle of a basically deserted town. I walked in and asked the bar keep what the folks would have drank 100 years ago. He though about it and said Jack Daniels. So I had a shot.

The place had the original tables, brass beds and lamps. They told me there was a ghost that haunted the place and I began to get the heebie jeebies.

Yellowtone Geysers

Take this as fair warning for what you are about to see. I'm not sure who this sign is directed at, do they want spanish asian minority children with cameras to pay special attention so they aren't scalded to death. I sure hope that kid is gonna be ok.

A sign nearby for the Morning Glory pool asks that humans please don't throw anything into the pool as it was changing the coloring of it. The color is caused by algae that live in the heat, the blue colored algae live in the hottest parts.

We camped out at the south end of the Flagg Ranch Resort and these are our views. At first the camping attendant wanted to put us near the office and I asked for something a little further away. The crowded little campground had rangers driving through all night, probably making sure people weren't being eaten by leaving PBJ sandwiches out on the tables for the marauding bears.

There were a ton of mosquitoes, I think they had one of the wettest Junes on record and it was at this point in the trip that Felix and I started saying we sure were seeing a whole bunch of wildlife with the mosquitos and all.

Camping in Jardine, Montana

We wanted some real camping out in the middle of nowhere and boy did we get it. Up a dirt road from Gardiner we passed Jardine; a place where they still pan for gold. This must be where you exchange your gold for goods.

Up the mountain we went, where it was dropping into the low 30's in late July. We didn't have bear pepper spray so we were real careful about not leaving food around after eating. We kept the leftovers in the truck.

Garrett County Fair

Here is the Queen of the fair until next year. Susan kept asking her what the job of being a Queen entailed and the Queen kept replying, cleaning out animal pens. I wish I had a pic of Susan's face. I'm not sure if the Queen was trying to keep down competition by telling Susan this or it was real but in either case Susan sure looked broken hearted for a spell.

Here is one of our new friends from the Fratz family farm. They had some of their livestock in the Garrett County Fair. We met them on the trip in to WV. We stopped the car and Susan immediately asked where the tomatoes were. The matriarch of the family said hold on, walked into their personal garden and picked two delicious heirloom tomatoes for us. Mm mm yummy!

Susan worked hard at getting the video shots. She had to keep in mind to keep away from the back of the cattle cause one good kick and it's all over.

The lady that was watching this stand thought I didn't really understand skinning a dear. She proceeded to tell me that some of the people from around these parts would just tie the deer to the back of a truck and drive along until all the skin came off. I think I should have told her that doing that would wreck a good pair of underwear.

Here are a few of what I guess would be my 3rd cousins. Susan wanted to adopt them immediately.

Adventure Blimp

Off we went, pirates with lost salty souls, hell bent on time travel and adventure.

"Who can tie a rope? Demanded the excitable Hatter.

"We don't need a rope if we don't intend to dock," said the sprightly Sage.

"Damn the rope," cried the salty Sea Witch. "A rope will weigh us down almost as much as children or ambition."

And with that they climbed aboard the hovering vessel and threw the anchor to the fire escape below. Only the heavens and hovering police helicopters could track their trek or cared for their gate.

After they had sailed or rather floated with a quickened trajectory for three weeks time (with nothing to eat but black currents and each others toe jam) they spied a curious effect.

There in the clouds that followed their trail appeared to be some kind of smiling cat. A UFO of feline proportion.

"Oh look at the alien pussy!" Cried the Hatter.

And look they did.

"We don't one here!" Said the slightly jealous Sea Witch, fearing hair balls and bad intention.

"Maybe she has food," said the quick think Sage.

And with that smart, ego sustaining insight, they waved the pussy to board. And board she did.. Although it wasn't a cat at all. It was in fact a cousin of the Hatter. A long lost relative, who despite numerous attempts to contact the Hatter through Facebook, he was forced to adopt the method of a floating pussy to garner his attention.

After a meal of tinned sardines and graham crackers, they docked (using the manpussy's rope) at a Paris cafe where they sipped absinthe tea well into the day and the night and the next morning.

The Skeptical Pirates considered the invite but never texted back. Rumors run rampant, but they don't hear a thing.

With the utmost sang-froid she clenched her speech in her left hand like a firelock and assumed a most persuasive angle of incidence. And she spoke, “I can feel the everwater through the crystal sunlight fly with the mindblown priestess in the early twilight.”

A Zombie Grows in Brooklyn

The corporeal undead were out in force on Sunday, May 31st, and believe you us, it was worthwhile to survive the weekend if only to witness the weirdness.

Real-life undead girls in rotting clothes and their chewed up boyfriends followed through on the threat implicit in the ominous clouds above.

The whole sick crew at Crazy Studios decked respectively as a cop, a priest, and a remarkably self-accepting zombie loaded up the Benz with gear and went westward to investigate the hitherto unknown phenomenon of people dying to get into Brooklyn.

We can report that exorcisms don’t work on reanimated corpses. Then again, we seem to have misplaced our copy of the revised De Exorcismis et Supplicationibus Quibusdam.

In spite of an ecumenical effort, they inexorably bar-hopped Bedford Avenue.

Those spooky mothers just kept coming.

The resultant soft parade of decomposing flesh finally pooled in McCaren Park for more madness, mayhem, and a few gallons of stage blood in various viscosities. Maybe even a bit of the real stuff, courtesy of Doug Sakmann and DisGraceLanD Hook Squad.

By 1pm Stefan, Jim, Peter, Susan and many more were pouring through the treasure trove of goodies. Synopsis
Wondermare is based on the notion that much of the behavioral conditioning programmed in our subconscious is the unhealthy byproduct of a world out of balance, a "house of cards" on the brink of catastrophe; the truth of which is obscured from us by our own myopic pursuits and illusions.

The exhibition uses as its setting the story of Alice in Wonderland precisely because it contains anecdotes about the rites of passage into adulthood. The tale consistently resists an easily defined linear structure and at the same time confronts the confusing and often nonsensical rituals that we must travel through in order to obtain a civilized or adult persona in the world we see through our looking glass.

Immersed in an eight-screen video landscape, gallery visitors will feel compelled to address the parts of themselves that are hidden, repressed and denied. As an interactive exhibition, the show creates the opportunity for a psychological rebooting or do over, where visitors will have another chance at addressing their own rights of cultural passage that they may or may not have gotten right the first time around.

Black And Light Ball

On the way to Asya's I had to get a photo of Susan and Rick in front of the emergency knocking down of these 5 story buildings at 14th and 7th Aves. The middle retaining wall between the two building began to buckle out towards the street just days before. There is a man up in the yellow/orange box knocking off 50 to 200 1b chunks of brick and concrete.I don't know who scribbled this all over Asya's mirror but it was unnerving for me. I think it was high art and isn't that what great art does, take us out of our comfort zones? I liked Norman Mailer's take on Picasso's blue period. Even though the pictures are sad and filled with despair they command the highest prices. Mailer believed that for those who could afford them, having a blind beggar on their walls gave them balance, grounded them in an earthly existence; it showed them a part of life they would never experience.

The night was very very animated. Finally we get to the party and the visuals and overall experience were mind altering.

Myths contain potent symbolic resonance that allow us to project our life experiences and desires upon the characters contained within archetypal narrative structures. In our show "Wondermare", we have chosen the narrative template of "Alice in Wonderland" precisely because it contains potent narratives about the rites of passage into adulthood. The story consistently resists a pat and easily defined linear narrative structure and at the same time confronts the confusing and often nonsensical rituals that we must travel through in order to obtain a "civilized" or "adult" persona in the world "behind" or in "front" of our looking glass. It is our belief that the much of the behavioral conditioning and psychological tapes programmed in our subconscious are the unhealthy byproducts of a world out of balance. Wonderful New York Video Shoot

In NYC there exists many places that exude character, charm, chutzpah, and class (how's that for a bunch of nouns that start with C?!). Some like the Empire State Buildning demand to be noticed but there far exceeds those that demand attention by those that take some work to find. The Pink Pony on Ludlow has the appeal of a Pastis without the crowds and the high prices. It was the perfect restaurant for our recent shoot.

Fighting ourselves

On April 20th, Big Al and I shot our two actors Ken Cypert and Ian Phillips as Tweetle Dee and Tweetle Dumb characters on a playground in Soho. We imagined them as school yard bullies, brothers, twins, who unable to express themselves and their desire for one another as so often happens in patriarchial war culture, they turned their aggression to each other and outside sources. I truly believe that our enemy, the shadow if you will, that we harbor in ourselves is often projected onto others and most often reflects that thing we see in ourselves that most terrifyies us in relationship to our own desires. That which we abhor is often that which we most secretly desire.

It was fun working to make this happen. We went down to Wall Street, got stock broker reactions and the like. Then spent 2 days in the "Hideout" helping log and capture and cut the 30 hours of footage that was collected.

The highest price paper I've seen selling on Ebay is for like $250 for a pristine copy. I'm not sure if that one is real but there have been a whole bunch more coming on line there. We all took a look at the leftover papers that were around and someone yelled, "We're rich!".

This year Susan and I are in the Halloween Parade with the East Village Sea Monster Marching Band and Halloween this year is on a Friday. Do the COLORS want to parade along with them?

There was a discussion the other night where people were actually stating that they were and have been afraid of sea monsters. Some person(s) were purportedly scared to take baths because of them. What I'm getting at is what about the 30th show being centered around Sea monsters and pirates. Pirates of the Caribbean has been addressing the Kraken.

Anyyway, I think it could be a loose theme for the October 30th Colors Project Show? I've been a member of the Sea Monster band for awhile and I think they are COLORS whether they know it or not. Maybe we could have them on the show on the 30th?

Details about our Sea Monster and The Parade
There is a center post fixture where the kid in the middle is sitting. This can be used for mounting a camera or possibly extending higher up so arms of the sea monster(yet to be built) can extend out. The sea monster can fit up to 3 five gallon buckets that can be used to hold stuff like candy giveaways, libations, etc. Regarding libations at the parade. Keep in mind that you can not get to a bathroom. So if you are drinking something make sure it's not beer or large quantities of soda or water. Once you leave the parade route there is no way to get back to the group.

From what I can see it appears that the most recent confused press release from Yahoo, in an article from Information Week, Yahoo Launches Video on Flickr that Flickr will take video uploads, is true; that is if you pay them $24.95 for a pro account for the year!

For anyone that uploads videos to Yahoo, navigating through the confused tangle of seemingly dead end links is more than enough. The old adage that you can't get there from here proves true on this site. The only way to access subscribers videos is through Videos.Yahoo.com. I know this may seem idiotic but after having an account there for more than a year I still have no idea how to see a producers main collection of videos. It would seem that they would at least copy one of the other video companies templates for ease of navigation. Like YouTube perhaps, Duh!

Now the idea that they are going to start a whole new service, without fixing the previous one, seems like the ship is being running by the people swabbing the decks.

It's unfortunate that the number one site in the world truly is a three ring circus.

As you guys know I've been saying for a while that we are in the midst of a revolutionary change in the industry standard for promoting one's product, ie advertising. One of the most compelling aspects about product placement inside a video is that it is up on the internet indefinitely. Consider Etrade's Baby Trader commercial during the '08 superbowl. It's a funny video and it can be seen by anyone at anytime. Need a laugh. Check it out.

Here are some other examples of a new wave of internet marketing.
When viewing the Red State Update, as compelling as it is, what do you think it would be worth to Pabst to have Travis and Jonathan get them to do an exclusive for a year with their beer? If Jonathan switched to Pabst, think about the mileage and the content and Pabst eclipsing Budweiser!

We have a company like Nesquick running a Nesquick Contest on You Tube to see who can make the coolest Nesquick video. We think this will be perfect for Chocolate Hunt to enter into. If Nesquick can get a buzz going, that's yet to be proven, the 10k first prize will prove to be a drop in the bucket for them. My quess is that they've already covered their design costs by the amount of traffic they are receiving.

TurnHere.com is a company that seems to have really stepped into a successful niche position. They are about 125,000 in Alexa ratings, which is pretty high. Big weekend at Crazy Studios. Albert and Susan joined forces with Foxy TV and discovered like minded madness bubbling in the streets of the West Village. We initiated an impromptu dance party, culminating in video shooting and further mania centered around gym socks and plumbers butt. Sometimes yoga is just yoga, but other times it symbolizes a deep, unabridged sexual frenzy of chakra glory. This is what we experienced at 11:36 p.m. never to be quite the same again.

The same level of frenzy followed us to Sunday where we saw a film at Monkey Town about repressed skin heads. Having been a former punk who experienced the shift in skin head culture, Susan had numerous opinions all expressed loudly at the bar afterwards. The after party was held in a former cocaine speak easy called Kokie's appropriately enough, once being owned and operated by the Puerto Rican mob. Now, it is another hipster dive, with the Hives on the juke box and chili fries served barely warm. Oh Williamsburg, how far we slip from our edge!

Got your call Friday but my attention has been focused on an injury in my close family. Monday I start a project with a new decorator and have taken a rather large cash deposit. I am already booked till April and beyond with various projects. We still never resolved your previous non payment for services, plus you aren't will to match my current rates. It seems unlikely that I have the time or interest to return to our prior work arrangement so we are ultimately in a deadlock situation. All things considered you don't seem to want to produce things on the level I expect, so what use am I as a consultant. I had owned the dot com, ChocolateHunt.com, for awhile and had this idea of a chocolate hunt. Then I came across MaxBrenner.com and I really studied the site and the store. On his site he has a list of videos. In the first one he puts in his 'Dreamy' chocolate visions using the motifs and descriptions of his own store. It's a very well thought through marketing presentation. So then I look at his Alexa.com rating, and it shows up at like 36,000 or something. The guy is driving more traffic than Nestle or Hersheys! So I wonder what Hersheys or Nestle or maybe a smaller brand would pay, for getting their chocolate promoted in a video that's up on you tube and that is permanent advertising. Every time someone goes in there and sees this funny video, the company gets a plug.

I really believe that larger companies have underestimated the potential for brand recognition through viral video.

With that being said, I believe our ChocolateHunt.com concept is a good one. The site is not up yet. I'm working on it right now.
